Venere Rice: A Naturally Gluten-Free Italian Specialty

Venere rice has always interested me for its deep colour, firm texture and distinctive character. Like all rice, it is naturally gluten-free, and its whole-grain texture makes it particularly well suited to simple preparations where the ingredients can remain clear and recognisable.

This was one of the combinations I shared in 2021: Venere rice served with baked mackerel. The idea was straightforward — a grain with personality, a simply cooked fish and a plate built around contrast rather than complication.

For me, ingredients like Venere rice are useful reminders that healthy cooking does not have to become a separate cuisine. Good ingredients, sensible cooking and a clear balance on the plate are often enough.
